I try too hard with flavours sometimes. I like them big. Lots of garlic and chilli and lemon. Bitter and sour and umami. That’s where my souls lives. I don’t do subtle that well. Or so I thought until I made this London fog pie. .

The jet lag was almost easy this time around, mostly because I have been too busy to be tired. Anyone have any tips to beat the jet lag?

Said my goodbyes, cried some tears, packed my bags and it’s 28 hours of travel to get back to firey Australia. It’s been a pretty fab 2 1/2 years living in Edinburgh and travelling Europe. Im not quite sure what to do with myself now.

Hi, I am Ruby - the baking, travelling, book stealing, tea cup collecting, red lipstick wearing, gin drinking weirdo behind The Runaway Baker. I am so pleased you are here!

I was born in Australia and grew up in a small town on a mountain with my head literally in the clouds. A daughter of the 90’s, it was a shy reclusive childhood of Disney princesses, fiery summers, trampoline jumping, ocean swimming and living in a world of books - dreaming of going everywhere and anywhere. As soon as I was able I ran away to meet my first adventure head on in New Zealand and didn’t look back. Change is life.

I currently live in a tiny apartment in Edinburgh with an unnamed ghost and a fridge full of cheese.

Most of my inspiration comes from my ever growing cookbook collection, my travels, daydreaming at work and the desire to create.
